After drying and powdering this avaram flower and extracted it in water, the decoction has been tested on different animals ranging from mice and confirmed that this herb controls diabetes in all of them. These studies have been conducted in different locations around the world under different conditions and all have confirmed that the dried bark of this flower is distilled into a poultice to control diabetes. There are thousands of research results on the web. I have given the website link below as just one example of the research results done on rats.

It also has *anti-oxidant* properties like other anti-diabetic herbs. It also stimulates insulin secretion to some extent. But its important functions lie in two other places.

One promotes the activity of mitochondria which makes the body get the energy it needs faster. As a result of the faster metabolism of these in mitochondria, more energy is readily available to the body. This will slightly change some of the restlessness or lethargy that is always in a sleepy state for diabetic patients. Activates the body and organs. Reduces some pains like arthritis.

Another important function is in the digestive system. It acts on digestive enzymes like alpha amylase and alpha glucosidase from endocrine glands. Both of these digestive enzymes break down large amounts of carbohydrates, i.e. sugars, in food and send them into the bloodstream. This increases the level of sugar in the blood. Aavaram poo herbal remedy inhibits the activity of these two enzymes and prevents them from over-digesting carbohydrates.

Avaram flower is commercially mixed with tea powder and sold as avaram flower tea (Kalpa herbal tea, Avarai panchaga chooranam, etc…). One of the main things that we need to note in this is that the tea powder in the Awarambu tea must be green tea type. It is better to choose organic green tea powder as much as possible. When you drink it as avaram tea along with regular tea, bile (Pile means Vaadham in Tamil traditional medical science) will accumulate in the body. I will give a separate post about this avarampoo tea later.

Picking this flower and eating it as it is or boiling it in water and drinking it is not beneficial. This flower is dried in the sun for a day and then dried in the shade until it becomes powdery to the touch.

Individual avarambu is available in stores as powder or dried flower. Although they control diabetes to some extent, it is more severe when it is converted into Surana through Ayurvedic or Siddha methods.
