It was only five years ago that we legally overturned the Americans’ patenting of India’s traditional medicinal herbs, neem and turmeric. The focus of Europeans and Americans on the toothpicks we have been brushing our teeth for a long time has now recently returned. There has been a lot of registration for research on it. Many of the things that our ancient scholars have written in Tamil (Siddha) and Sanskrit (Ayurveda) have now been taken up for study.

On the one hand, we consider it a disgrace to speak Tamil. We, on the other hand, despise Sanskrit and dismiss it as a communal language. They are taken advantage of by foreigners who read Sanskrit and take its various rare scientific subjects from here and patent them as research results. It is a pity that we are losing personality in those languages even if they prove to be our treasures.
